Thursday, November 3rd, 3:30 pm – 4:30 pm, Artist Leila Nadir will discuss EdibleEcologies, her new series of social sculptures that work collaboratively with local communities (human, microbial, and ecological) to revive endangered food practices and remediate a cultural memory disorder that she calls “industrial amnesia.” EdibleEcologies begins with the belief that art can help people navigate the contemporary food crisis, which we see as a crisis of memory and imagination caused by the industrialization of food. The question at the heart of EdibleEcologies is: how to generate embodied memory of food practices where cultural memory loss can be near total?
