NRC Board of Directors Update

Published January 05, 2021
When one door closes, another one opens. It is with gratitude for his service and a bit of sadness we share that Gene Hanlon, longtime board member and valued friend of NRC, is stepping down from our Board of Directors after 30+ years of service. At the same time, we are happy to welcome Willa DiConstanzo to the Board of Directors.

Gene Hanlon was a huge part of the framework of the Nebraska State Recycling Association (NSRA) and WasteCap Nebraska, and helped steer the merger of those two organizations for the Nebraska Recycling Council. He holds a master’s degree in Public Administration from the University of Nebraska and worked as Recycling Coordinator for the City of Lincoln from 1987 until his retirement in 2018. He has served on the boards of the Nebraska Chapter of the Solid Waste Association of North America, NSRA, WasteCap Nebraska, and the Nebraska Recycling Council. He is married to his wife LaVonne and has two wonderful sons.

Willa DiCostanzo is currently the Waste Diversion Coordinator for the City of Lincoln. She has a degree in Environmental Studies and English from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and has worked for the City of Lincoln for nearly eight years in a variety of positions. Most recently, Willa worked at the Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department as an Environmental Educator for the Keep Lincoln and Lancaster County Beautiful program as well as the Toxics Reduction Program for Household Hazardous Waste. She is the treasurer of Lincoln Earth Day and is actively engaged throughout the Lincoln and Lancaster County community.

Please join us in thanking Gene for his service to NRC and welcoming Willa to the Board of Directors. Thank you both for the support you provide in our important work.
