Scottsbluff Zoo Reports Recycling Success from “Twinning the Bin”

Published September 18, 2017

Riverside Discovery Center has seen an uptick in recycling after “twinning the bin”, that is, pairing a recycling bin with every trash bin throughout the zoo. The new bins were purchased thanks to a NRC Recycling Equipment Grant funded by the Nebraska Environmental Trust.

The zoo has recycled nearly twice as much since the new bins and signage were installed. Their old, mismatched and squirrel-damaged bins were seldom filled, but with this improvement, they are optimistic about the long-term effect on recycling. It reflects their primary purpose of species and environmental conservation, and they continue to make new and exciting improvements to their grounds, exhibits, and programs.
